Concert I – European Dialogue: Between Beethoven and César Franck
This concert is part of a chamber music series artistically directed by Spanish pianist and musicologist, Irina Soriano Kuznetsova, and organised with the support of the Embassy of Spain in Belgium. Through three complementary programmes, the series offers a journey through the great traditions of European chamber music, from Viennese Classicism to the French mélodie.
The opening concert brings together two masterpieces of the piano trio repertoire: Ludwig van Beethoven's Piano Trio in D major, Op. 70 No. 1, "Ghost Trio", and César Franck's Piano Trio No. 1 in F-sharp minor.
Through these two works, the programme places Viennese Classicism in dialogue with Franco-Belgian Romanticism, illustrating the evolution of European chamber music in the nineteenth century. Beethoven pushes the expressive boundaries of the piano trio through innovative and dramatic writing, while Franck develops a deeply lyrical musical language characterised by harmonic richness and cyclical unity.
Performed by Trio Héliade, this concert invites audiences to discover two masterpieces of the chamber music repertoire in an intimate setting, where the dialogue between violin, cello and piano reveals the depth and richness of this musical tradition.
