The young Luxembourgish cellist Matis Grisó, winner of numerous national and international competitions and a student at the Royal Conservatory of Brussels since 2020, is already establishing himself as one of the most promising talents of his generation. During the 2024–2025 season, he made his solo debut with several renowned orchestras, including the Luxembourg Philharmonic Orchestra, the Luxembourg Chamber Orchestra, and the Musiq3 Festival Orchestra. Last December, he also had the honor of performing the national anthem alongside his violinist brother during the Christmas address of H.R.H. Grand Duke Guillaume.

Here, he will perform with the Quatuor Aeterna, winner of the Prix Espoir at the Génération Classique competition of the Festivals de Wallonie and finalist of the Supernova competition.

Together, they will present a rich and contrasting program, culminating in Schubert’s Quintet for Two Cellos, an absolute masterpiece of the chamber music repertoire. This follows Webern’s Langsamer Satz, in which the flame of a passionate love seems to appear in every measure, and Ligeti’s Sonata for Solo Cello, a two-movement work that challenges the limits of virtuosity.

A musical journey between deep romanticism, the lyricism of emerging modernity, and the boldness of the 20th century.

Program:

  • Anton WEBERN, Langsamer Satz for string quartet
  • György LIGETI, Sonata for solo cello
  • Franz SCHUBERT, Quintet in C major D.956
