A tribute to Messiaen and the musical spirituality of Vasks
The Pēteris Vasks Quartet is a unique project that brings together four Latvian musicians for a tour in Latvia and across Europe, celebrating composer Pēteris Vasks’ 80th birthday in 2026.
At the heart of the Brussels program is Olivier Messiaen’s Quartet for the End of Time - a landmark of 20th-century music, composed in eight movements and premiered in 1941 in a prisoner-of-war camp.
This powerful work left a deep impression on Vasks and inspired his own piano trio, Episodi e Canto Perpetuo (1985), also structured in eight movements and performed here in its extended version. The program also includes The Fruit of Silence - a meditative prayer for peace by Vasks, presented in a special arrangement for quartet.
