The opera opens with a forest scene, where Golaud (Pelléas’ brother) discovers Mélisande weeping by a spring.
A tender love begins to blossom between the two, unfolding scene by scene, but their connection is soon disrupted by the arrival of Pelléas.
Tormented by jealousy as he witnesses the growing intimacy and subtle seduction between Pelléas and Mélisande, Golaud descends into madness. Consumed by despair, he devises a plan to kill his brother, seeking to destroy the absolute love that torments him.
