Musica de Barro

Sankofa Trio

A journey through Mexico and Colombia

Born in Argentina in 2006, Sonamos Latinoamérica Festival is much more than a festival; it’s a movement. A cultural bridge between Latin America and the world. This unique event brings the heart and soul of Latin American music to Brussels.

With editions across Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Mexico, Chile, or Venezuela, this festival is a rare gem in Europe, with Belgium as one of its only hosts. Sonamos Latinoamérica is finally back from March 25 to March 28, 2026. Muziekpublique will take you on a musical journey through the sounds of Brazil, Colombia, Mexico, and Venezuela. Don’t miss this three-day tribute to Latin American music.

The second evening concert of the Sonamos Latinoamérica Festival takes us on a journey through Mexico and Colombia.

  • Música de Barro is a Mexican duo from Oaxaca that connects traditional Latin American sounds with contemporary aesthetics. Their music weaves popular styles together with classical guitar, violin, and electronic textures. The roots of Oaxacan tradition remain clearly present, while futuristic sound layers open up new listening worlds. With influences ranging from Son Istmeño, Son Huasteco, and Son Jarocho to Cuban music, as well as jazz, blues, and African rhythms, they create a unique and poetic sound. The duo has performed at major festivals and theatres throughout Mexico. They are currently working on their debut album, Música de Barro.

  • The Colombian Sankofa Trio has been awarded numerous times as the best folk group in Colombia. The trio particularly stands out for its innovative arrangements of Colombian musical traditions. Zahira Noguera Cardenas (cuatro) is a leading reference in música llanera, the music of the border region between Colombia and Venezuela. Bassist Daniel Iván Sossa Aljure is known for his surprising compositions, while flutist Sandra Milena Sánchez Vega, in addition to her work with Sankofa Trio, also performs with major symphonic orchestras in Colombia.
