On the occasion of Costa Rica’s National Day and the 168th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Belgium and Costa Rica, the MIM presents a concert featuring five Costa Rican and Belgian musicians based in Belgium.
Pieter Decolvenaer on violin, Draymell Díaz on oboe, Daniela Rodó on piano, Pía Rodríguez on flute, and Túpac Amarulloa on flute and saxophone will perform a programme dedicated entirely to Costa Rican music.
From traditional music to works influenced by Romantic and contemporary styles, the programme explores the rich diversity of Costa Rica’s musical heritage. It includes Amor de Temporada, Pampa, Caña Dulce, Patriótica Costarricense, Luna Liberiana, Romanza, Danzoneando and Danzón para Tsurúh, as well as the National Anthem of Costa Rica.
The concert also celebrates the musical and cultural ties between Costa Rica and Belgium. Several Costa Rican composers pursued their musical studies in Belgium at the beginning of the 20th century. The five musicians performing today have likewise completed part of their musical training in Belgium and continue their artistic and educational activities here.
Each piece will be briefly introduced, offering the audience an insight into its background and its place within Costa Rica’s musical culture.
The concert will be followed by a reception hosted by the Embassy of Costa Rica.
