BANAD - Old England

mim building

Situated in the upper part of Mont des Arts, the Old England building that houses the MIM is one of the most remarkable examples of art nouveau in Brussels. The building was commissioned from architect Paul Saintenoy in 1898 by the fabric shop of the same name, and its metallic architecture would leave a lasting impression on the capital. The visible structure of iron and glass supports the seven floors and is a technical feat for the period - the first of its kind in the kingdom. The building remained in use until 1974, when it was bought by the state in 1979. After a restoration campaign in the early 1990s, the new Musical Instrument Museum opened its doors there in 2000.

After the guided tour in the Old England building, you will be able to access to MIM's permanent collections.
