A Musical Journey for Two Traversos
Musicians:
Manuel Granatiero, Eleonora Bišćević – Traverso flutes
A musical journey built around two dessus that traces the evolution of the traverso, spanning a century of musical history from the Baroque to Classicism. The program opens with the refined Op. 4 by Jacques-Martin Hotteterre (Paris, 1712) and continues with three virtuosic duets by Wilhelm Friedemann Bach—cornerstone works for flute players and admirers of Johann Sebastian Bach’s firstborn—composed at three distinct stages of his life (Leipzig c. 1720, Dresden c. 1740, and Berlin c. 1780).
The concert explores and synthesizes the advances in flute technique and craftsmanship, featuring several models of historical flutes, from early French instruments to the keyed flute. The latter will be used to pay tribute to the lightness and elegance of selected arias from Mozart’s The Magic Flute, transcribed in 1792.
On this occasion, the musicians are pleased to present to the public their new recording of Wilhelm Friedemann Bach’s Sonata for Two Flutes, to be released by Arcana on January 9, 2026—thirty-five years after the release of the only previous historical recording.
Program:
Music by J.M. Hotteterre (1674-1763), W.F. Bach (1710-1784), G.P. Telemann (1681-1767), W.A. Mozart (1756-1791)
