exhibition acquisitions 2010-2011
In the 2010-2011period, 32 donors have given the Musical Instruments Museum a total of 129 items. Of these items, 55 are going on show for a three-month period in the magnificent, historically reconstructed Hall of Mirrors. The importance of 'Acquisitions 2010-2011' is the quality of the items selected for display and the fact that they can be admired for a few months before disappearing into the reserves, possibly for a very long time.
The yield of the last two years includes De Waele's entire Brussels accordion workshop, early electronics from the IPEM (Institute for Psychoacoustics and Electronic Music) in Ghent, gifts from South Korea, Kyrgyzstan and Serbia, a collection of non-European plucked and wind instruments from collector Marc Lafontaine, several original instruments by Adolphe Sax and Mahillon - with thanks to the Friends of the mim - and ... a vuvuzela!
